Project Overview
Advanced Bending and Reeling Test Program for Offshore Pipeline
North Africa
Oil & Gas
Our engineers led the full mechanical testing and validation program for large-diameter pipelines used in a major offshore oil and gas project in North Africa. The primary goal was to assess the pipes' performance under bending and reeling conditions key to safe offshore installation using reel-lay methods.
Our Solution
Full-Scale Reeling Simulation and Testing
Supplied and prepared 13.6m-long pipeline specimens for bending trials.
Conducted reeling and straightening cycles using industry-standard test rigs to simulate offshore installation conditions.
Measured pipe ovality and monitored structural deformations during test cycles.
Advanced Monitoring and Data Capture
Deployed Digital Image Correlation (DIC) systems to generate real-time 3D strain maps.
Installed strain gauge bridges at critical stress points (intrados and extrados) to monitor material behavior.
Conducted visual and dimensional inspections post-testing to identify any signs of buckling or damage.
Project and Data Management
Oversaw the full project lifecycle including setup, execution, data processing, and final test reporting.
Delivered certified reports in accordance with international pipeline testing standards.
Key Outcomes
Demonstrated structural robustness of pipeline materials under reel-lay deployment.
Minimized risk of mechanical failure during offshore installation.
Delivered a validated pipeline solution ready for operational use in complex marine environments.
